Dragons suffer road loss

CORRY — The Warren girls basketball team was on the road Monday to take on the Corry Beavers.

The first half was again another back-and-forth battle for the Dragons as they were down just four points with two quarters to play.

The Beavers played tough defense and limited the Dragons to a solo Peyton Wotorson free throw in the third quarter.

Corry would hold firm in the fourth to seal the victory 33-24 over the Dragons.

Wotorson led Warren in scoring with 10 points while Peyton Hagg chipped in 7 of her own. Lily Richards nailed a nice 3-pointer in the first quarter, and freshmen duo Joanna Bennett and Molly Richards each added in a bucket.

The Beavers had two girls in double digits with Ava West having 12 points and Grace Allen 11.

The Beavers utilized their height to control the boards.

“Corry’s starting five are taller than most of my starters and team overall,” Warren head coach Jenny Phillips said. “They are certainly a good team with great chemistry, and despite our team injuries and youth, we kept up with them most of the game. The thing that continues to plague us unfortunately is scoring. We need others to step up and find their opportunities, especially as teams will try to take Peyton Wotorson away. That’s going to be a huge focus over the next couple of weeks as we get ready for region play.”

The Dragons have the rest of the week off, but return to action next Monday as they are back on the road to take on the Franklin Knights for a 7:15 p.m. varsity start.

Starting at $3.50/week.
