Dragons turn in ‘fantastic’ effort at Cathedral Prep Duals
ERIE — The Warren boys wrestling team was on the road Saturday as they competed in the Cathedral Prep Duals event hosted by the Ramblers.
Also in the field were McDowell, Bradford, South Fayette, Harbor Creek, and St. Joseph Collegiate (New York).
The Dragons finished third overall, defeating McDowell (54-24), Bradford (38-31), South Fayette (51-23) and St. Joseph’s Collegiate (40-35). They lost to Harbor Creek (51-24) and eventual champions Cathedral Prep (39-32).
Head coach Koltyn Eason was elated with his team’s performance, stating, “We wrestled fantastic today. We really wrestled as a team and, despite some injuries, we came together, worked through it, and filled the holes in our lineup. Today was beyond my expectations, and I am so proud of the boys.”
Sixteen Dragons got to see the mat. Tanner Stuart had a very impressive outing as he went 6-0 with five pins; and Carter Campbell also performed well earning five wins, including four pins and the other by technical fall.
Matching Campbell’s record was Colby Zinger at 5-1 with five pins. Tucker Sanford wrestled hard and went 3-2 with three pins; and Hayden Holden picked up three wins all by pin. Posting 3-3 records were Cameron Hagg (one pin), Ryan Letko (three pins), Sebastian Oyola (one pin, one technical fall) and Tyson Harkins (two pins).
Ayden Dean earned two wins by pin; Wyatt Wilson made the most of his one match by pinning his opponent; and Nicholas Freehling won two of his matches. Garrett Copley wrestled hard for the Dragons. Contributing one winwere Dru Abbey, Travis Childress and Jacob Ferino.
