KNIGHTS WIN, TOO
TITUSVILLE — The Eisenhower wrestling team has very quietly started out 3-0 in Region 3 action with wins over Union City, Conneaut Area and, on Thursday night, Titusville.
Wrestling in front of a packed gym, the Knights edged the Rockets 36-34.
Eisenhower got a 3-0 decision from freshman Colin Havers at 172 pounds and, at 189 pounds, Bryceton Wilkins earned a pin in a back and forth match.
The crowd was on their feet cheering and both benches were up and yelling for the 215-pound match and it was Eisenhower’s Brice Spinks, who won a hard fought 8-6 decision to give the Knights the 36-34 victory.
Forfeit wins for Eisenhower were recorded by Lane Morrison (107), Jacob Battko (114), Aiden Snyder (126) and Wyatt Neall (160).
“Once again, it wasn’t just the guys who won on the mat, but (it was also wrestlers who) didn’t give up a pin and saved us team points,” Knight’s head coach Jared Lindell said. “Those guys really contributed to the win. Those back points are so important in a dual match. Just a total team win against a good Titusville team.”
The atmosphere in the gym definitely played into the win and that was not lost on Lindell.
“That gym was rocking, both benches were on their feet and cheering, that is how high school wrestling is supposed to be and one of the things that make it great, Lindell said.
Eisenhower is back in action today at the Dry Tech duals in Greenville.
