WARREN — Eddie Abplanalp scored late in the game as Warren avenged an early season 6-0 loss with a 3-2 Region 5 win over General McLane on Wednesday night at War Memorial Field.
The Dragons were down 1-0 at halftime, but rattled off three goals in the second half.
With senior captain Quinn Norris out due to injury, the Dragons were looking for people to step up. Fortunately, it wasn’t just a few kids to do so, but the entire team. Coming into the game, the Lancers had only been scored on four times the entire season.
The crucial team win was highlighted by goals from Jack Chapman, Gabe Dougherty — on a penalty kick — and Eddie Abplanalp. Dragons assists were from Trey Carrington and Timmy Giger.
“That’s a huge team win,” Warren head coach Steffen Blair said. “We knew this game would come down to discipline, defending as a team, and taking advantage of our chances on the counter. The boys delivered. Reilly (Morgan), Luc (Wilkins), Bryce (Grolemund), and Kyle (Jones) frustrated their front three all night and that set the tone for the rest of the group. This team is playing with a lot of confidence right now.”

Steal leaders for the night were Reilly Morgan with 20, Trey Carrington with 18 and Bryce Grolemund adding 13.
Goalkeeper Adon Maier had a strong night in goal tallying 15 saves.
The jayvee squad tied the Lancers 1-1.
The Dragons have now won 10 games in a row, and look to continue the streak on Thursday when they host the Titusville Rockets for a 6 p.m. varsity slate at War Memorial Field.
