ERIE — Warren golfer Elissa Errett kept her senior season alive Wednesday when she won the Last Chance Qualifier for one of the remaining two spots at the AAA Region 3 District 10 Girls Golf Championships.
Every Region 3 team was represented in the 18 kids participating at the qualifier held at J.C. Martin Golf Course.
“I am very proud of Elissa with her round today and how she was able to fight back from a late-season slump,” Dragons head coach Scott Pearson said. “This had her starting to lose confidence after a very good start to the season. She was able to find her swing at the right time as she posted a personal best score of 83 today. She was under a lot of pressure because this could have been her last match, and she was able to focus and deliver today.”
After regular-season play, Errett landed in the 10th individual spot, missing out on one of the top-eight automatic bids.
Senior JoJo Gray also shot her personal best today with a 91, narrowly missing one of the District spots.
“I am very happy to see JoJo play very well today as her long game was very solid,” Pearson said. “Unfortunately, it came down to some missed putts which cost her. She had a very good year with some good scores. She can be happy with her finish today as she was right there.”
Also competing Wednesday was newcomer senior Alanna Warrior who shot a 125.
“Alanna is a great person and an asset to the team. She was learning fast and has a great attitude,” Pearson added.
The final Dragon competitor was junior Alyssa Reichle, shooting a 132.
“Alyssa is showing steady improvement in many parts of her game and I’m really happy that she has another year to continue to develop as a player,” said Pearson.
Kate Shippee and Errett will compete at the District 10 Championships on Tuesday at the Country Club of Meadville. If they make the cut, their second round will be Saturday, Oct. 4.
