Warren girls third at Meadville CC

MEADVILLE — The Warren girls finished in third place at the Meadville mega match held at Meadville Country Club on Monday.

The Dragons finished with a best three-out-of-five score of 306 while McDowell was the low team with a score of 248. Fort LeBoeuf ended with a 265, Meadville a 333 and Erie High a 377.

“Even though there just wasn’t one thing that everyone had problems with today, it seemed we all struggled to get the speed of the greens under control. We struggled to get easy tap-ins and we had many three-putts,” Warren head coach Scott Pearson said. “The course was playing a little longer than what we are used to, and we were having trouble hitting greens in regulation which eventually caught up with us.”

On a day where the temperatures were hovering around 44 degrees to start, Kate Shippee was the low score for the Warren with an 88 (seventh overall). JoJo Gray carded a 107, Zella Hendricks a 111, Elissa Errett a 119 and Alannah Warrior a 122.

“We also had quite a few balls hit fairway sand bunkers which cost us some shots. Even though we were able to get out of them, the balls only went a short distance, leaving us with an extra shot into the green,” Pearson added. “All of this played into a little more wasted shots which impacted everyone’s scores.”

The low medalist on the day was a 77 from Fort LeBoeuf’s Cassidy Conn, the only sub-80 score on the day.

The Dragons return to the course Thursday at McDowell’s home course, Downing Golf Course, for the final mega match of the year.

Starting at $3.50/week.
