Warren County girls wrestlers post win over General McLane
The Warren County girls wrestling team took care of business on Wednesday as it defeated the General McLane Lancers 45-30.
Despite only being able to fill seven out of 13 matches, the Lancers wrestled well and picked up many wins.
“We looked at the lineup, and knew we still had to win a few matches, being spotted 36 points,” reported head coach Glenn Baldensperger.
Winning their matches for Warren County were Leah Morrison at 130 pounds and Jenna Kophazy at 118.
Baldensperger added, “The highlight of the night was Leah Morrison . She is a first-year girl who pinned her opponent in the second period. Jenna Kophazy continued her winning ways with a quality win. Kaelon Connolly came back for us off of a concussion. She was a bit rusty, but came out still feeling good, so that was a win for us. Multiple Dragons (Nakita Nelson, Allisun Woodin, and Abbie Darr) wrestled exhibition matches to gain some experience. They were all defeated by their Lancer opponents, but wrestled well.”
The girls’ regular season is over, and they will plan for the upcoming individual district competition later this month.
“After tonight, we will get our lineup set for districts to prepare for that. We hope to use our experience to get some of the girls back to regionals, and hopefully states,” Baldensperger said.
