Dragons fall to McDowell in tennis

ERIE — Warren’s girls tennis team traveled to McDowell on Thursday and was defeated by the Trojans 3-2 in Region 2 play

At first singles, the Dragons’ Lucy Harrison defeated Mary Jane Moubarak 7-5, 6-2.

“At first singles, Lucy took on one of last year’s doubles champions (Moubarak) and after being down 3-5 in the first set, she fought back to win four straight games to grab the set 7-5,” Warren head coach Thomas Pellegrino said. “She stayed focused and was mentally strong through the entire match.”

At second singles, Warren’s Alannah Garza beat Courtney Leonard 6-2, 6-4.

“Garza also had a solid win today and played one of her best matches all season. Alannah owns a complete game and did a really nice job mixing it up today keeping her opponent on the back foot,” Pellegrino said. “She mixed up her pace, played aggressive at the right moments, and served exceptionally well today.”

McDowell’s Kali Taylor beat Grace Carlson 6-0, 6-3 at third singles.

At first doubles, McDowell’s Sophia Johnson and Markella Nacopoulos beat Sarah Harvey and Scotlynn Perry 6-3, 6-2.

At second doubles, the Trojans’ Asheen Udgiri and Peyton Irwin topped Brady Caudill and Olivia Romanosky 6-1, 6-0.

“Overall, I thought this was a great team match and competitive from both sides,” Pellegrino said. “McDowell has a very deep lineup and we knew it would be challenging to grab three points today.”

Warren, which is now 4-3 overall and 2-3 in region play, travels to Bradford on Monday to take on the Owls.

Starting at $3.50/week.
