Sheffield playground funding request on agenda

A new playground is coming to Sheffield Township this summer.

The Warren County Commissioners are being asked to support the project through an Act 13 Greenway Program grant to help pay for the project. The request will be discussed at the commissioners’ meeting today.

Sheffield is asking the county to support an Act 13 Greenway Program application to replace old and outdated playground equipment for 2- to 5-year old children in Memorial Park and to install a new infant/baby swing set. The town is asking for $14,360.22 in Act 13 funding, with a total project cost of $64,360.22 that will be paid from the township’s 2026 general fund.

Columbus Township officials are asking for Act 13 funding to rehabilitate a 30-year-old gazebo in Mather Park. The township is asking for half of the project’s $10,000 cost to be paid with Act 13 money to replace the support structure underneath the gazebo floor with appropriate material. The floor was built with untreated lumber and has become spongy and unstable over the years.

The commissioners will also consider a proclamation recognizing July 19-25 as Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week, honoring community corrections professionals for their role in public safety, offender supervision and rehabilitation.

New business includes consideration of 2026-27 Children and Youth Services (CYS) provider contracts, approval of a CYS software system upgrade, and adoption of the county’s CYS Needs-Based Plan.

The board is also expected to vote on a proposed amendment to the county’s Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance (SALDO) text.

Additional agenda items include Act 13 funding requests from Sheffield and Columbus townships, awarding a contract for the Spring Creek Bike-Hike Trail project, consideration of a county employee bonus policy, approval of an IT consulting agreement and settlement offers related to reassessment appeals.

Starting at $4.00/week.
