D10 all-stars

Warren’s Madigan, Jones, Nosel, Ike’s Smyth honored

Maddy Jones

After advancing to the District 10 3A championship, three Dragons — seniors Lindsay Madigan and Maddy Jones, and junior Madelyn Nosel — have been named to the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association (PVCA) All-District 10 3A First Team.

Eisenhower senior Caroline Smyth was named to the PVCA D10 1A Second Team.

“This is a very nice honor, and it comes directly from the PVCA coaches, whose teams experienced playing against all these girls,” said Warren coach Mike Dolan. “To have almost half of your lineup make the first team in all of District 10 AAA is pretty impressive, and says a lot about these players and also the team’s performance this year.

“Maddy Jones was such a fantastic all-around player and finishes off a career in which she registered 806 kills — the second most all-time for Warren, and only the second player to amass over 800 total,” said Dolan. “It was also her serving, defense, and serve-receive ability that gave our team so many opportunities to score. This season, she had 45 aces and 233 digs to go along with an amazing 370 kills.

“Her counterpart Madelyn Nosel was impressive as well as the other outside hitter,” added Dolan, “and gave our team a huge 1-2 punch from the outside. She truly came into her own this season, setting the Warren volleyball single-season kills record with 453. She used her athleticism to elevate above many opponents to deliver high-powered kills as she became a top-notch scoring threat. It’s exciting that, as only a junior, the sky is the limit for her.

Madelyn Nosel

“To round out this super athletic trio, Lindsay Madigan made so many plays for the team all over the court,” said Dolan. “As the setter, we seemed to hardly ever be out of system since she was able to run down so many passes and digs and then deliver a consistent high-quality set to our hitters. Her ability and work ethic helped raise everyone’s game. She finishes her career with a remarkable 2,622 assists, including 940 this season alone. She also served up 81 aces this season and kept the other teams’ defenses off-balance with 91 kills.

“So, congratulations to these three athletes and to all their teammates this season whose hard work and overall success directly drive these recognitions.”

Madigan is a three-time PVCA D10 all-star, and Jones was awarded for the second straight year.

Eisenhower’s Smyth has also been named for the second season in a row.

“I am super proud of Caroline and all her accomplishments,” said Ike coach Lori Pascuzzi. “District 10 was a very competitive area this year with several players worthy of recognition. Caroline is only one of two players selected who did not come from the top three district teams, which is a huge compliment to her.”

Pascuzzi added: “Not only is she a player with great skill, she is also an incredible team leader and mentor to all her teammates. She works hard every moment and is willing to sacrifice personal gain for what the team needs at any moment. She is a true competitor. She is so fun to watch because it’s obvious she genuinely loves the game. I look forward to watching her play at the collegiate level.

“While she does put team first,” said Pascuzzi, “she ended the season with some respectable stats — 103 kills on the season with a .250 attack rating and a 36 percent kill rate, 29 service aces… with an 89 percent service rate overall, and 24 blocks.”
