Troopers were dispatched to a home on Route 6 in Brokenstraw Township after a 911 hangup call. When a trooper arrived at the scene Gruber was allegedly in the back of a Warren County Adult Probation Unit patrol vehicle due to the belief there had been a domestic dispute a short time earlier. A woman said Gruber allegedly assaulted her before police arrived and allegedly threatened to stab her. Gruber allegedly choked the woman on the bed on April 15 and allegedly choked her before police arrived April 16.
The woman told police Gruber had allegedly been abusive toward her for several days, had taken her phone from her and wasn’t allowing her to leave the home.
“The victim stated that she eventually was able to get her phone from the accused for a period of time lng enough to send a text message to the accused’s probation officer asking them to come remove the accused from the residence because she no longer felt safe with him there,” the Affidavit of Probable Cause states.
A follow-up interview was done with the woman, who repeated the story to State Police. According to the affidavit, troopers reported seeing signs of recent physical injury that included red marks to her neck and arms as well as bruising on both legs.
