After a five-set win over Cathedral Prep on Tuesday, Warren’s volleyball team made quick work of Fort LeBoeuf 25-10, 25-16, 25-17 on Thursday at Warren Area High School.
“We had pretty solid serving and passing tonight and that allowed us to be effective on offense,” said Warren coach Mike Dolan, “but the defense was really good overall. Our middles — Julia Getner, Lilly Newton, and Attie Corey — did a great job blocking, which allowed our back row defenders to make plays behind them. Lauren Fajbik took some nice swings as well. It’s a very tough league, so each one of these wins is key; gotta keep the momentum going into next Tuesday’s region game at General McLane.”
Maddy Jones returned from a minor ankle injury for “a huge boost to the team as well,” said Dolan, whose Dragons are 4-0.
Jones had 11 kills and eight digs; Lindsay Madigan 27 assists, six digs, three aces; Madelyn Nosel seven kills, five digs; Malysia Sorensen 16 digs; Lauren Fajbik three kills; Lilly Newton three kills; Sophie Walker four digs, two aces; and Julia Getner two kills.
Fort LeBoeuf defeated Warren 23-25, 25-19, 15-10 in junior varsity play. For Warren, Paiden Johnson contributed 15 digs; Addison Ristau two aces, one kill; Brynn Norris four assists, one kill; Hailey Cabisca three kills; Lara Pearson two kills, four digs, two blocks, three aces; Grace Schwab two kills, three blocks; Peyton Cabisca two kills, one ace; Brooke Sherry three aces, seven kills, nine digs; and Michaela Dolan six assists.
EAGLES LOSE ON ROAD
ROCKY GROVE — Youngsville won its first game of the young season, but Rocky Grove ultimately won the match in four games Thursday at Rocky Grove High School.
The Orioles won the opening two games 25-14, 25-20 before Youngsville rebounded with a thrilling 26-24 victory in game three. The hosts buckled down in the fourth game, however, and came away with a 25-13 victory to close out the match.
The Eagles’ highlight was undoubtedly the game-three victory that saw Youngsville pull out a win after being so close in so many games this season.
The Orioles didn’t make it easy on Youngsville, erasing a late 24-21 deficit to tie things at 24-24 before the Eagles came away with the final two points to extend the match.
Madilynn Johnson had a big night for the Eagles with 13 assists and nine digs and Riley Robinault finished with a season-high 15 kills. Rachael Lucks had a pair of aces and Alyssa Gentz and Kamden Swearingen had nine digs and eight digs, respectively.
Youngsville dropped the junior varsity contest, 25-12, 25-15. Sophia DePasquale had four digs and Alexis McDonald three digs in defeat.
The Eagles (0-4) are back in action Tuesday when they start a busy week by visiting Commodore Perry.
