Spiegel shines at McDowell Invite

ERIE — The Warren boys and girls track team competed at the 39th annual Joe Sanford McDowell Invitational on Friday and returned home with some impressive results.

The girls finished in ninth place out of 16 teams, earning 43 total points. The boys finished 11th out of 18 teams with 28.50 points.

The highlight of the day was Max Spiegel, who was the lone Dragon to win an event. He jumped 6 feet, 3 inches to claim the high jump crown.

Contributing points for the Lady Dragons were: Morgan Alexander, 1,600 meters, 5:23.61, fourth; Lilly Newton, 400 meters, 1:02.83, eighth; Riley Evan, 800 meters, 2:30.52, seventh; Ava Wymer, 200 meters, 28.28, seventh; Lilly Newton, high jump, 4-9, fourth; Zoe Rodgers, discus, 90-10, fourth; Brady Caudill, discus, 88-10, sixth and javelin, 102-9, third; Lara Pearson, javelin, 101-9, fourth; and Gracie Page, pole vault, 9-6, second).

Also earning points for the girls was the 400-meter relay team of Lauren Fajbik, Paiden Johnson, Madelyn Nosel and Ava Wymer, who finished in eighth place with a time of 53.02.

Point winners for the boys side were: Spiegel, high jump, 6-3, first; Adon Maier, high jump, 5-9, fifth and 110-meter hurdles, 15.43, third; Scott Nichols, 300-meter hurdles, 44.38, eighth; Leyton Salvatore, 800 meters, 2:01.45, sixth; Aiden Eger, javelin, 146-10, seventh; and Leyton Salvatore, pole vault, 12-3, sixth.

The Dragons are back at home Tuesday as they host the Meadville Bulldogs at 4 p.m. at War Memorial Field.
