Scholar’s hat trick sends Eisenhower past Iroquois

RUSSELL — Lexi Scholar had her fourth hat trick of the season Monday to lead the Eisenhower Knights past the Iroquois Braves 4-0 in Region 3 girls soccer.

Scholar started the scoring with her first goal at the 14:35 mark of the first half and her second goal found the back of the net at the eight-minute mark to send the Knights into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

Shayleigh Albaugh followed a missed kick by Scholar and sent it toward the Iroqouis net before her kick bounced off the Braves goalkeeper and into the net just nine minutes into the second half to make it 3-0.

Scholar would get her third goal of the game a few minutes later to make it 4-0.

The Knights would play hard on defense and stop every one of the Braves’ advances. Eisenhower goalkeeper Tracey Jakubczak would make four saves on the day to earn the clean sheet.

“We were able to get everyone into the game and try out some new positions,” Eisenhower head coach Faith Johnson said. “It was nice to see the girls having fun and ultimately that is what matters most. It was good to see them work hard and apply what they have learned to get the win.”

The Knights improved to 2-2-0 in the region and 5-2-1 overall. They are back in action today when they travel to Kane to face the Wolves at 4 p.m.

Starting at $3.50/week.
