Warren plays rare Thursday game at Corry
As many things that went right for Corry in its season-opening win over Titusville went wrong for Warren in a 61-0 loss to Conneaut.
But when Warren and Corry meet at 7 p.m. tonight at Sheen Field in Corry, the Dragons “have to have a short memory,” according to head coach Cody Bupp.
“(On a) short week, we have to condense things down, clean up mistakes, and try to execute our game plan,” said Bupp. “We had the heat index advisory this week, so it was another challenge with walk-through only allowed (at practice).
“As we told the kids, you have to have a short memory, play in the moment and don’t let it get too big,” added Bupp. “Build on the positives and continue to get better each week.”
Warren’s opener was essentially over by halftime with Conneaut amassing 337 yards in the first half to the Dragons’ negative yardage. On the other hand, the Beavers had 357 total yards and 17 first downs in a 28-22 win over visiting Titusville.
“They loaded up the box last week and bullied Titusville at times, and we expect them to do the same,” said Bupp. “They are aggressive and will bring guys from all angles. They are a sound football team that will not beat themselves.”
Corry quarterback Nolan Carey completed 16 of 26 passes for 266 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Mason Savitz caught seven passes for 153 yards, Blake Cook with three grabs for 78 yards and a TD, and Carey completed passes to six other receivers.
“Talented team,” said Bupp. “Carey gets rid of the ball quickly and they have size and speed on the outside. They rotate a ton of guys around, so we have to keep track of where their playmakers are at all times.”
The two longtime rival schools haven’t played since 2021.
