JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Eli Harpalani singled to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning and later scored on Tommy Schroeder’s hard ground ball past third base as the Jamestown Tarp Skunks rallied for a 12-11 Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League victory over the Newark Pilots on Wednesday night at Diethrick Park.
In a game that was delayed 45 minutes at the start due to rain, the Tarp Skunks came back from deficits of 3-0 and 10-3 before tying the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Jamestown’s biggest inning came in the sixth when it sent nine batters to the plate and scored six runs before an out was recorded. Kobe Jones (Shorter University) led off the frame with his second double of the game and Shaniel Maldonado (Mercer Community College) reached on an error before DJ Stoianovich (Mansfield University) hit a two-run single. Henry Juan (Williams College) then walked and Aidan Wallace (University of Tampa) hit an RBI single. Austin Matranga (Grand Canyon University) pinch-ran for Juan at second base before Brandon McClain-Banks (Youngstown State University) hit a two-run double down the left-field line to make it 10-9.
Newark scored a run in the top of the seventh off winning pitcher Hayden Givens-Craig (University of Tampa), but he limited the damage and allowed his team to tie it in the bottom of the inning.
Bobby Stang (University of Dayton) led off with a single before Jones hit a dribbler to the pitcher that was thrown away down the right-field line, allowing Stang to score all the way from first on the play. After a pair of strikeouts, Jones scored the tying run on a wild pitch before the Pilots got out of the inning.

Givens-Craig pitched around a one-out single in the eighth inning before Harpalani (Catawba Valley Community College) scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the frame.
In the top of the ninth, Schroeder (Shorter University) speared a line drive at third base to open the inning before a grounder to first and Givens-Craig’s third strikeout of the game ended the night.
Newark scored four runs off Jamestown starter Brady Wright (Santa Fe Community College) in the opening four innings, but the Pilots also stranded five, including the bases loaded in the top of the fourth.
Schroeder hit a two-run double in the bottom of the third inning to make it 3-2 before Jones doubled and scored on an error in the fourth to make it 4-3.
But Newark scored six runs over the next two innings to put the Tarp Skunks in a big hole that they eventually dug their way out of with nine runs over their final three plate appearances.
