The Pennsylvania Big 30 football squad has added another Eisenhower Knight to its roster for the annual charity football game to be played Aug. 3 at Parkway Field in Bradford.

The latest Knight honored with a selection is Derek Childs, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound wide receiver and linebacker. Childs is the son of Christina and Larry Childs.

Childs, a versatile athlete for Eisenhower, wrestled and played baseball for the knights during his high school athletic career. He also rolled his versatility onto the football field. He started multiple positions over his three years as a letterman.

“Derek is a guy who has played an awful lot of football for us, starting games at multiple positions for us,” Eisenhower head coach Jim Penley said. “He always has a great attitude and is willing to learn what needs to be done. His willingness to adapt and team-first attitude allowed us to use him in a lot of different ways. His senior season, he put it all together and made the Big 30 team. We will certainly miss him next season.”

As for Childs’ reaction to making the Big 30?

“It’s an honor to be selected to play and join the list of former Knights who have played in this game,” he said.

Childs’ future plans are to solo hike the Appalachian trail and then attend the Southeast Lineman Training Center’s lineman school.

Starting at $3.50/week.
