Ike girls roll past Girard
GIRARD — The Eisenhower Lady Knights basketball team made the long trip to Girard last night and completed the season sweep of the Yellow Jackets with a 52-29 victory.
Laney Font started the scoring for Eisenhower when she drained a deep three pointer, followed by a Lainey Belcher basket to give the Lady Knights an early 5-0 lead they would never look back from.
Girard had trouble with Eisenhower’s pressure defense and the Lady Knights converted turnovers into points as they held Girard to just 10 first quarter points.
Eisenhower led at the half 28-10, with Clara Steinberg and Samantha Childs leading the Lady Knights with 8 points each in the opening half.
Head coach DJ Steinberg began to rotate in his players in the second half and the Lady Knights maintained their lead.
“The girls came out just swarming the basketball and that created problems for them,” Steinberg stated. “I thought all the girls played well, it was an overall team effort and a total team win. I’m really happy with the effort the girls gave tonight.”
The Lady Knights closed out their scoring with a 52-29 win.
Eisenhower was led by Clara Steinberg’s 20 points, while Girard was paced by Leah Pratt who had 10 points for the Yellow Jackets.
