ERIE — The Youngsville Eagles junior high wrestlers descended on the Bayfront Convention Center for the Battle on the Bay Tournament on Sunday.

The tournament regularly attracts competitors from across Pennsylvania as well as Ohio and New York. The Eagles placed six of their eight competitors in the tournament.

In the 12 and under division, Tucker Sanford was crowned champion at 135 pounds, posting two pins and a win by forfeit; Brenton Myers placed third at 135 pounds with a win over Amber Dingle of Cambridge Springs; Collin Havers placed third at 145 pounds with his only loss to Dominic Catalone of St. Marys; and Ryker Chase placed fourth at 160 pounds with a win over Mickey Mescall of Gowanda. Also competing in the division at 90 pounds was Little Eagles wrestler McKenzie Hodak, who placed fourth at the Kane Tournament on Saturday.

In the 15 and under division, Ayden Dean rebounded from an early loss and earned three straight wins, two by fall, en route to a fourth-place finish at 103 pounds; and Mason Fleming picked up a quick fall in his first match before dropping a 1-0 setback in the semifinals, but recovered with two additional pins to place third at 140 pounds. Also competing in the division at 103 pounds was Jacob Battko.

“This tournament attracts some great competitors,” commented Coach Tim Suydan. “Ayden and Jake had some real hammers in their bracket. Ayden put together a good tournament for himself. He showed some glimpses of his potential. Mason, Tucker and Collin looked tough. They’ve benefitted a lot from competing with each other in the room. Ryker and Brenton each flashed their potential in their matches. They’ve been working hard in the room. I was glad to see Kenzie make the trip up too. She’s got the talent to make more of a name for herself and she’s showing she’s willing to put in the work to make it happen.”

The Eagles will be back in action today in their dual meet at Titusville.
