NEW BETHLEHEM — Youngsville earned its first team victory of the young season during the Redbank Valley Duals held Saturday in New Bethlehem.

After losing on criteria in a tied match against Oswayo Valley, the Eagles rebounded to close the weekend with a 42-30 victory over Oswayo in the final match of the weekend. Youngsville also suffered setbacks to Punxsutawney (42-18), West Shamokin (48-28), Highlands (75-0) and Kane (48-18).

“The results don’t exactly show the competitive spirit in several of the duals,” said Youngsville coach David Myers. “We’re experiencing particularly what we were hoping for from our green group — growth. Our kids wrestled hard this weekend.”

In the victory over the Green Wave, perhaps the biggest victory came from Cody Jespersen, who logged a second period pin over Oswayo’s Abram Cook — avenging a loss earlier in the weekend.

All other wins in the match came via forfeit, including wins from Alex Patch, Michael Carnahan, Kenneth Shellhouse, Carsyn Branstrom, Connor Minnis and Cole Johnson. The same six wrestlers got forfeit wins in the opening match against Oswayo Valley.

Against Punxsutawney, Branstrom got a forfeit win and Carnahan and Connor Minnis each picked up pins. Carnahan pinned Riley Mills in the first period at 139 pounds and Minnis pinned Ryan Kanouff in the 215-pound bout.

In other action, Cole Johnson picked up a pair of pinfall wins at 121 pounds. Johnson pinned West Shamokin’s Braden Newell in just 38 seconds and Kane’s Kayin Bard in 2:30.

Also against West Shamokin, Gavin Olson was a 13-5 majority-decision winner at 145 pounds, Branstrom decked Dylan Buzard at 160 pounds in just 1:26 and Jespersen got his second pin of the weekend at 215 pounds.

Shelby Lobdell was a forfeit winner against West Shamokin and Sarah Blauser and Minnis were forfeit winners against Kane.
