Warren girls fall at DuBois CC

DuBOIS — Warren’s girls basketball team missed a lot of layups; there’s really no other way to describe the Dragons’ 41-34 loss on Thursday at DuBois Central Catholic.

DCC senior Kayley Risser did hit a layup late in the fourth quarter as the Cardinals would take a 33-31 lead. Risser scored 8 of her game-high 16 points in a quarter in which DuBois would outscore Warren 14-8.

Riser’s first two points of the game would give her 1,000 for her high school career. The game would stop briefly as the District 9 Class 1A home team honored its standout.

The break didn’t help the Dragons find the mark as they connected on just one field goal in a slow four-point first quarter. Alyssa Farr, Alana Stuart and Peyton Wotorson hit 3-pointers in the second quarter and District 10 5A Warren trailed 19-17 at halftime.

After a nine-day layoff, the Lady Dragons (2-2) would add just six field goals and 17 points in the second half.

“We sucked,” said Warren coach Lisa LaVan. “(We) could not make a layup. (When) you play good teams, you have to be ready to play, physically and mentally.”

Warren had its chances as Farr’s layup with about four minutes left cut the DCC lead to 35-33. Wotorson hit a free throw with three minutes left for the Dragons’ final point.

Halle Kuzminski led Warren with 11 points.

DCC is 4-1 overall.
