Eisenhower girls pick up second win

KANE — Eisenhower picked up its second win of the season and it came on one day’s rest as the Knights defeated Kane 43-34 on Friday.

Eisenhower started the game with 3-point baskets by Clara Steinberg and Laney Belcher, and the Knights’ pressure defense held Kane to just 6 points as they opened up a 14-6 lead after one quarter.

“Our shots weren’t falling so our girls amped up their pressure defense which forced some turnovers early which helped us build a lead,” Eisenhower head coach DJ Steinberg said.

Eisenhower continued its pressure defense as Lainey Font, Samantha Childs and Clara Steinberg each had steals in the second quarter to allow the Knights to open up their lead to 22-14 at the half.

“I thought our defense was outstanding tonight,” Coach Steinberg said. “Kane is predominantly a junior-, senior-heavy team, our pressure and rebounding was critical. Lainey Font had seven rebounds, she really had a nice game.”

The Knights’ shooting finally came around as Clara Steinberg had 10 second-half points and Eisenhower opened up its lead to as many as 12 points.

Clara Steinberg took high game-scoring honors with 15 points and Belcher added 12 points for the Knights. Kane was led by Maya Smith, who had 12 points.

In jayvee action, the Knights came from behind to win as Morgan Zaffino hit a key 3-pointer down the stretch to give Eisenhower the lead. The Knights held on for a 19-14 win.
