Warren’s girls soccer team evened its Region 6 record at 3-3 on Monday with an 8-0 win over Meadville at War Memorial Field.
Twin sisters Meea and Leyna Irwin combined for seven goals and six assists in the win for Warren (6-7 overall).
“I think we played a solid game all around,” said Warren coach Mark Ordiway, whose Dragons led 6-0 at halftime. “Seniors Eliza Brook and Marielle Stanz controlled the center of the field, and Meea and Leyna Irwin were able to link up on a number of nice plays in front of them.
“We adjusted our four defenders prior to the game and that paid dividends as well,” said Ordiway. “With Lilly Stanley and Bella Campbell on the outside, and Chloie Sliter and Charlotte Keeports in the middle, we were able to keep the ball in front and also maintain possession.
“Freshman Maggie Bennett also added some good minutes off the bench. Meea and Leyna led us offensively with four goals and three assists and three goals and three assists, respectively.”
Sophomore Kaylee Cyphert scored her first goal and freshman Lani Wenzel added two assists. Freshman Alexis Jones got her first career varsity start in goal and combined on the shutout with senior Hailey Peterson.
