Cathedral Prep sweeps Dragons in tennis

After a tough 3-2 match with Fairview on Monday, Warren’s girls tennis team turned around and lost 5-0 to visiting Cathedral Prep on Tuesday at Betts Park.

“After the long match last night, we knew this would be a tough task,” said Warren coach Thomas Pellegrino. “The girls were definitely a bit mentally and physically fatigued, but we still put up a great fight across these matches.”

At first singles, Warren’s Iris Kiehl lost to Anna Poranski 1-6, 1-6.

At second singles, Mary Gerace lost to Findleigh Handzel 4-6, 3-6.

At third singles, Lucy Harrison lost to Paige Patsy 3-6, 4-6.

In top doubles, Izzy Heacox and Natasha Ferry lost 0-6, 2-6 to Sophia Glance and Margaret Prichard.

At second doubles, Grace Carr and Alannah Garza lost 3-6, 4-6 to Sophia Falvo and Lilly Beauchart.

“Losing to a private school is always a tough pill to swallow, but we were actually very pleased with the outcomes today,” said Pellegrino. “We have improved immensely from the last time we played them and, if we can tighten up a few things here or there, these close sets might pull our way.

“We hope to meet them again in this year’s D10 team final and get one last chance at redemption,” he said. “As for (today), we are back on the road early as the girls are heading to Sharon to participate in the Tri-County Tennis Tournament at Buhl Park. This is an all-day event where every player on the roster has the opportunity to win varsity matches for their team. The weather is looking great and we’re excited for a fun day of tennis.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
