Warren defeats St. Marys 7-2 in tennis
ST. MARYS — The Warren boys tennis team was on the road Monday for a last-minute scheduled match against St. Marys, and defeated the Flying Dutchmen by a 7-2 margin.
“Being the last nonregion match of the season for both teams, we decided to play with the format a bit to maximize match play and get more kids into varsity play,” said Warren head coach Thomas Pellegrino. “It was a fun day of tennis and we had some good matchups that will help us prepare for districts.”
Jaxon Thrift won at third singles and Karson McCollough won at fourth singles for the Dragons (13-1, 5-1 Region 2). Warren won all five doubles matches. Lucas Thrift and Jaxon Thrift were 8-6 winners at first doubles, Gabe Dougherty and Gaven Mealy were 8-4 winners at second doubles, Bill Bennett and Josh Westover were 8-3 winners at third doubles, Tobiah Reinard and Grant Newton were 8-3 winners at fourth doubles, and Trey Carrington and Luc Wilkins were 8-1 winners at fifth doubles.
The Dragons travel to Buhl Park on Wednesday to compete In the annual Tri-County Tournament in Hermitage. They will end the regular season Friday as they take on Cathedral Prep.
