Warren boys win third straight

ERIE — Warren’s boys soccer team shut out host Iroquois 5-0 on Monday for its third straight Region 4 win.

“I was really happy with our build-up play,” said Warren coach Steffen Blair, whose Dragons are 3-3 overall and 3-1 in the region. Iroquois is 1-3 and 0-3, respectively. “Jack (Chapman) had another really strong game and that started with great link-up play from Quinn (Norris), Gavin (Rex), Finn (Ordiway), and Brody (Alexander) in behind him. The boys are settling into the system and we’re starting to build some really positive habits.”

Chapman scored twice on Saturday and three more times on Monday.

“It was another game where Trey (Carrington) made his mark,” added Blair. “We ask a lot of him, especially for a freshman, and he always seems to finds a way to help the team. He’s all effort and that showed on a great finish off a set piece for his first varsity goal.”

Rex converted a penalty kick, Norris had two assists, and Carrington and Ordiway one assist each.

Chase Sitler had 13 steals on defense; Norris added eight steals.

“Our defense did really well to limit their chances and make them one-dimensional,” said Blair. “We pride ourselves on strong team defense, but it’s all started with Dakota (Sliter), Chase (Sitler), Alex (Eaton) and Casey (Rich) growing into their roles on the back line. Their stability has allowed us to play with a lot more freedom at the top of the field, and we benefited from that.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
