Sheffield sweeps A-C Valley
SHEFFIELD — Sheffield improved to 7-1 Monday night, defeating visiting Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School in three sets 25-15, 25-20, 25-13.
“It wasn’t pretty at times, but it was enough to get us to seven and one,” said Sheffield head coach Melissa Lemay following the Wolverines first of three matches this week.
After a rougher-than-anticipated first set, yet still pulling off the win, the Wolverines found themselves trailing A-C Valley throughout the set, however, with Sheffield down just two, Kadence Steffan delivered on her consistent play, serving from 18-20 to victory.
Sheffield was able to clean up their game and finish strong in the final set.
“Varsity had quite a few unforced errors in the first set, that we worked on correcting in sets two and three tonight,” said Lemay. “We had 24 kills tonight, but 18 attack errors, so we need to be more consistent tomorrow against Johnsonburg.”
Kassidy Orinko and Peyton Wotorson made up 13 of those kills. Orinko also had seven aces and a team-leading 16 digs. Emily Davidson added 13 digs, while Steffan had 19 assists.
The junior varsity fell 25-23, 18-25, 7-15. Maddy Snell had five digs and three kills. Lily Benton had five assists and five service aces.
The Wolverines will host Johnsonburg tonight and travel to Brockway on Thursday.
