Old Timers sweep twin bill

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — The Jamestown and Area Old Timers swept both games of a doubleheader against Springfield, Ohio, on Sunday at Diethrick Park.

The Old Timers won Game 1 6-5 and Game 2 11-4.

In Game 1, Springfield tied the game 5-5 in the top of the seventh before Jason Ostrom hit a walk-off single to score Kyle Jenkins with the game-winning run in the bottom of the frame.

Chris Yost went 3 for 3 with a double while Jenkins had a double and a triple for Jamestown. Ed Baldensperger was the winning pitcher.

Todd Westover and Chad Rachic had doubles while John Pelles took the loss on the mound for Springfield.

In Game 2, Jamestown scored four runs in the second inning and six more in the third to take a 10-1 lead en route to the seven-run win.

Ostrom went 3 for 4 while Wade Nelson doubled in the victory. John Carr was the winning pitcher while Winston Woodard closed out the game for Jamestown.

Rachic doubled and was the losing pitcher for Springfield.

The Jamestown and Area Old Timers play in the 50 Plus League out of Youngstown, Ohio. The team consists of players from Western New York and Northeast Pennsylvania. The next game is away on Sunday in Poland, Ohio. Jamestown returns home Sunday, July 11 to take on Greenville, Pennsylvania at Diethrick Park at 11 a.m.
