Warren’s girls soccer team is 3-1 in Region 6 after its 12-0 Senior Night win over Oil City on Tuesday at War Memorial Field.
Leyna Irwin led the scoring with three goals and two assists, all in the first half. Meea Irwin added three first-half goals of her own for a 10-0 lead at the break.
“The twins are having big seasons; Meea has tallied 16 goals and seven assists and Leyna has 13 goals with six assists,” said Warren coach Mark Ordiway, whose Dragons are 5-6 overall.
“Celebrating Senior Night, all four seniors made it on the score sheet,” he said. “Seniors Eliza Brook, Hailey Peterson, Chloie Sliter and Marielle Stanz combined for four goals and five assists. Hailey has been our starting goal keeper for the past two seasons. Tonight, we were able to pull her from goal and get her out on the field to stretch her legs. Most parents and casual fans were probably unaware of how good she is on the field. She had a goal and assist before halftime. It was a lot of fun to see her out there.
“Alexis ‘Texas’ Jones replaced Hailey in goal early first half for her first varsity experience,” added Ordiway. “Texas has a bright future as our next keeper. I think she will develop into an all-star type player for us.”
Sophomore Bailey Williams scored her first career goal late in the second half.
“Bailey should be able to step into a much bigger role for us next year as well,” added Ordiway. “We were able to play everyone on the roster for significant minutes in what was a varsity-only contest. Four girls got their first varsity playing time. Overall, it was a very successful night for the entire team.”
Other goal scorers included Marielle Stanz and Brook with a goal and two assists each, Lucy Bigelow with a goal and assist, and Sliter with a goal.
