Tarp Skunks roll past Geneva 6-2

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Jamestown’s pitchers had trouble finding the plate Sunday afternoon in a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League game at Diethrick Park.

In fact, the trio of Will Saxenmeyer, Tony DeLawrence and Andrew Ayers combined for 11 walks.

That’s the bad news.

The good news?

The trio allowed only two hits and that was stingy enough until the Tarp Skunks’ bats finally awakened late en route to a 6-2 victory over Geneva.

The win improves Jamestown’s record to 14-9, while the Red Wings fall to 6-18.

The game was hardly an offensive show as Saxenmeyer (four innings, three walks, one strikeout) and DeLawrence (five walks) held Geneva hitless until Andrew Eppinger’s leadoff single in the top of the seventh. Ayers (three walks) worked the final 21/3 innings, surrendering one hit, to raise his record to 3-1.

Griffin White (0-1), one of four Geneva pitchers, took the loss.

The game was tied 1-1 after 6 1/2 innings, but Jamestown used small ball in the bottom of the seventh to score two runs and then tacked on three more in the eighth to provide some breathing room.

Eight different players had a hit apiece for Jamestown. Tommy Googins drove in a pair of runs, and Zack Kent, Ryan MIttelman and Kieran Gagnon all had an RBI.

Ethan Swidler belted a solo home run for Geneva.

The Tarp Skunks return to action tonight when they entertain Batavia. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m.

Starting at $3.50/week.
