Tarp Skunks fall 2-1

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Jamestown had its winning streak halted at five Friday night as it suffered a 2-1 setback to Elmira in a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League contest at Diethrick Park.

The Pioneers (12-7) scored a run in the fourth inning and one in the sixth, and that was just enough as starter Joseph Keldsen, winning pitcher Gardner Meeks (3-1) and Brendan Ferrari combined on a seven-hitter.

The Tarp Skunks (12-7-1) only run came in their first-at when Brayden Johnson smacked a two-out single to left field, moved to single after Matt Thompson was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on an error and scored on a wild pitch.

That was all the offense the hosts could muster.

Meanwhile, Elmira’s runs came via a balk in the fourth inning and a triple by Aidan Blake in the sixth.

Jason Masick (1-1) took the loss. Together with starter Will Saxenmeyer and Evan Berta, the trio combined to strike out 11 and walk four.

Johnson and Luc Fuller each had two hits for Jamestown.

Blake had two hits for the Pioneers.

The Tarp Skunks are back in action today at Elmira. After off days on Sunday and Monday, they return to Diethrick Park on Tuesday for a 2 p.m. game against Elmira.

Starting at $3.50/week.
