Drake Well Marathon set for Aug. 20

TITUSVILLE, Pa. — The Drake Well Marathon & Half is back for 2023.

The popular race is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 20, beginning at 7 a.m. at Drake Well Museum and Park. Participants will experience the beauty of historic Oil Creek and nearby Titusville as they run along shaded streets and creek banks. The community comes together for this event with volunteers and friends to cheer along participants. All proceeds from the race benefit Friends of Drake Well Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)(3) community-based organization, which partners with the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission in the administration of Drake Well Museum and Park.

The full marathon continues to serve as an official qualifier for the Boston Marathon with a $200 prize for the overall male and female. Registration is open and currently at $100 per person until Aug. 1 when it increases to $110. The half-marathon registration is $70 per person until Aug. 1 when it will increase to $80. Online registration for both races will close Aug. 15, but participants can still register in person the day of the event.

In addition to the full and half races, there is also an option to run a “virtual” marathon and half-marathon with participants running their routes between Aug. 6-20. Registration is $50 for the full virtual race and $40 for the half virtual race.

Both races will once again be “cup less” events — each participant will receive a silicone collapsible cup that can easily fit into a belt or pocket. Giveaways and an event shirt will also be included with each registration for both in-person and virtual races. Discounts for all veteran and active-duty military are available.
