Eagles sweep pair against Forest Area
YOUNGSVILLE — One day removed from its worst loss of the season, Youngsville responded with its biggest two wins of the year Tuesday, sweeping Forest Area 14-3 and 17-0 in a doubleheader at Davis Street Field.
With Tuesday’s doubleheader sandwiched in between a pair of important Region 2 contests, the Eagles were able to play their entire roster with several players getting a chance to see their first varsity action of the campaign.
Junior Wyatt Dalrymple pitched a complete five-inning game in the opener, allowing all three runs in the first inning before settling in and putting up nothing but zeros the rest of the way.
Offensively, Matt DeSimone and Ethan Senz paced the Eagles with three hits apiece. Keegan Mesel, Nathan Lucks, Alex Patch, Nate Leamon and Dalrymple all added one hit each and DeSimone had the lone Youngsville extra-base hit of the game with a triple.
In the nightcap, things went even smoother for the winners with James Johnson pitching three no-hit innings to win the game that was called after three innings due to the mercy rule. Johnson struck out seven and walked only two.
DeSimone again led the way with three hits, including a pair of doubles, and Talon Mesel also collected his first double of the year. Gavin Bundy walked all three times at the plate and scored a team-high three runs and Logan Dougherty walked twice and scored as well to help the winning effort.
The Eagles have one last contest before the postseason begins as they conclude their regular season today at Maplewood.
