Dragons suffer 5-2 baseball loss at Corry
CORRY — Corry scored four runs in the first inning en route to a 5-2 Region 5 win on Monday over Warren’s baseball team.
“Rough first inning; three of the four in the first were unearned,” said Warren coach Andrew Morrison, whose Dragons are 4-9 overall and 2-8 in the region. “They put the ball in play and made things happen right off the bat. We settled down after that, but we can’t keep digging holes like that.”
Junior starting pitcher Brady Berdine threw all six innings, allowing just five hits and two earned runs. He struck out eight without a walk.
“Brady probably had his best outing of the year, all things considered,” said Morrison. “His command has improved as the year has gone on. He was getting stronger as the game went on.”
Offensively, Corry leadoff-hitter Karson Chamberlin was 3-for-3 and third-hitter Jon Albers 2-for-3 with two RBIs — accounting for all five of the Beavers’ hits.
Warren’s Konnor Hoffman and Owen Blum had two hits each for four of the Dragons’ five hits.
“Too many guys left on again,” said Morrison. “The top of our order is getting on, (but) we need to get them in.”
Warren won the junior varsity game, 13-10. Eli Snyder was 5-for-5 with two doubles in the slugfest, and teammate Felix Valencia had three hits, including a double and his first high school home run. Warren had 20 hits as a team, including three each from Carter Cochran and Tage Wyman (four RBIs), and two hits and two RBIs from Caden Beers.
