Jamestown Tarp Skunks return on June 1

In less than a month, the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League will open it season.

Jamestown has plenty on its figurative “home plate.”

“This season we are extremely excited to bring families to the ballpark for summer fun,” said Christian Dolce, general manager and director of business sales and operations, in a press release. “Our main goal this year was to put the fans first. “From our promotions, tickets, concessions, entertainment … (and) merchandise, we are confident that fans will have an amazing experience at the ballpark.”

The Tarp Skunks open their season at home against Olean on Thursday, June 1. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. The pregame activities include a free tailgate festival, sponsored by Pepsi, featuring live music by the local band, “For the People.”

According to Dolce, the Tarp Skunks saw an 8% increase in attendance during the 2022 season. This year’s regular season will run through July 28.

“Over (those) two months, we want Diethrick Park and Tarp Skunks baseball to be somewhere where fans can enjoy the game, but also have a ton of fun,” Dolce added.

Back for this season are the $2 Nights, featuring pop, hotdogs and beer for $2 each. Every Wednesday home game will be a $2 Night, excluding Wednesday, June 7. That day will be School Kids Day, presented by the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, and that will include students from Jamestown Public Schools, Falconer, Sherman and Randolph First pitch is 11 a.m.

Following are some of the other highlights:

¯ Thursday, June 15: Jamestown Community College buyout night: The college will be distributing tickets to their students, faculty, staff and alumni for this game, which will be free to the public.

¯ The other two buyout nights are courtesy of the Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency on June 29 (6:30 p.m. first pitch) and the Greater Chautauqua Federal Credit Union on July 9 (2 p.m.). Both games are free to the public.

¯ Fireworks nights will be on June 30 (6:30 p.m. start) and July 23 (7 p.m. start), presented by Jamestown Mattress and Collaborative Children’s Solutions respectively.

¯ Tarp Skunks Kids Club, presented by Pepsi and Collaborative Children’s Solutions, includes the following membership perks: midseason ice cream social with Whiffy, the team mascot; 10% off at the team store; a free T-shirt; and a free ticket to Friday night home games. In addition, fans can run the bases for free after every weekend home game, excluding July 23.

“This is going to be a great way to get fans more involved and have an interactive experience here at the ballpark,” Dolce said

Single-game tickets will go on sale on Monday, May 15, starting at $5 each. Season-ticket packages are available for $103. Group outings and picnics are also available for purchase at any time.

“We are working on a few more fan interactive theme nights,” Dolce said. “We really want fans to have an interactive experience and be able to show their fandom in a number of different way.”

First pitch for games Monday through Saturday will be 6:30 p.m., with the exception of School Kids Day and doubleheaders. All doubleheaders will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday games and the July 4 celebration will begin at 2 p.m.
