Warren tennis improves to 9-2

ST. MARYS — Warren’s boys tennis team won its third match in 24 hours on Friday with a 6-1 win at Elk County Catholic.

After two Region 1 road wins on Thursday — at Grove City and Kennedy Catholic — the Dragons stayed together in one location on Friday against a District 9 host.

At top singles, Logan Fincher beat ECC’s Anthony Messinco, 6-1, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, Warren’s Mark Lynds outlasted Cam Klebach, 7-6 (10-8), 6-1. Owen Strandburg gave the Dragons their third singles win with a hard-fought 3-6, 6-4, (10-7 tiebreaker) victory over Cole Piccirillo. Teammate Brody Alexander suffered Warren’s lone lineup loss, but battled at 6-2, 4-6 (8-10).

In doubles, Warren’s Fincher and Mark Lynds won, 8-3, over Messinco and Klebach. Adam Strandburg and Hugh Harrison defeated ECC’s Piccirillo and Owen Daghir, 8-2. Carson Moore and Jack Lynds also won for Warren, 8-2 over Julian Funaki and Douglas MacDonald.

“We are all pretty tired,” said Warren coach Travis Myler of the Dragons’ third road win in two days. “Back at it again Monday, too. … It definitely helps us prepare for a strong end to the season.”
