Second-place Meadville hands Warren 2-0 defeat

Despite continuing to stay competitive, Warren’s baseball team is 1-6 in Region 5 after a 2-0 loss Wednesday to visiting Meadville.

“Tough day, offensively,” said Warren coach Andrew Morrison. “(Mason) Walker threw all his pitches for strikes. He’s a good pitcher but, again, our decision making at the plate needs to be better.”

Walker threw a complete-game one-hitter in 75 pitches, striking out six with three walks. Meadville is 9-3 overall and 7-1 in Region 5.

“We hit quite a few balls hard,” said Morrison. “Their pitcher made a great play in the seventh to catch a liner from Konnor (Hoffman).

“Brady (Berdine) was awesome today; kept us in the game,” added Morrison. “Meadville is a great offensive team and he didn’t give up an earned run. The run we gave up in the fifth was due to a mental mistake in the field that is inexcusable this late in the year. Brady did a great job of working around that and limiting damage.”

Berdine started for Warren and pitched 5ª innings, allowing four hits and six walks, striking out eight. The Dragons (3-6 overall) committed four errors on defense.

“Franklin (Thursday); another good team,” said Morrison. “We need to bounce back like we did last week. Then another region game Friday with LeBeouf.”

Warren won the junior varsity game 3-2. AJ Slattery had a two-run double and Zane Carlson was winning pitcher.

Starting at $3.50/week.
