Prep baseball shuts out Dragons 10-0
ERIE — Over the weekend, Cathedral Prep shut out Warren’s baseball team 10-0 in five innings at Mercyhurst University.
Two Prep pitchers — both Division I college commits — held Warren to three hits.
“They are as advertised,” Warren coach Andrew Morrison said after Saturday’s Region 5 game. “They are sound in all facets of the game. They are ranked number 1 in the state for a reason.
“Overall, I was happy with our effort, honestly,” added Morrison, whose Dragons are 2-4 overall. “Our hitters put the ball in play against a Division 1 pitcher (Andrew Malec allowed three hits and struck out three over four innings). We only struck out four times. We told the guys coming into this game to compete regardless of the opponent, and they did. Our pitchers did a good job of throwing strikes; they just happened to hit the ball pretty far a few times.”
Division 1 Clemson commit Jason Fultz hit two home runs and a triple and finished 3-for-3 with five RBIs. Eight of Prep’s nine hits went for extra bases.
Prep had no less than a half dozen D-1 commits in its lineup on Saturday.
“We have no choice but to put this week behind us,” said Morrison. “We play another 6A team in McDowell Wednesday (at home), then go to play a really good Franklin team Friday.”
