Nice weather led to nice performances in Warren’s Region 4 track and field sweep of Eisenhower on Wednesday at War Memorial Field.

“We were glad to move the meet to a little better weather today,” said Warren coach Kevin Dustin. “We were able to move some kids around to do different events to score points in areas that they may normally not. The kids were eager to jump in wherever they could, which is really nice to have. We were glad to come away with the wins on both sides and look forward to going to the SRU Invite this weekend.”

In the Lady Dragons’ 123-26 victory, Lindsay Madison and Maddie Nosel finished 1-2 in the 100-meter dash and Shyann Rulander, Morgan Alexander and Hannah Pierson 1-2-3 in both the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter events. Warren’s Lilly Newton easily won the 400 meters and high jump, and edged teammates Nosel and Lauren Fajbik to win the 200 meters. Madigan and teammate Jenna Kophazy finished first and second in the long jump in 15 feet, 1 inch and 14 feet, 9 inches, respectively, and Madigan also finished first in the triple jump for her third individual win.

Warren won all three relay events and junior Laney Gatto got closer to her goal of breaking the school record in pole vault with her winning height of 9 feet. Kaelin Hatfield finished a second or two ahead of teammates Alexander and Ryleigh Bowers to win the 800 meters.

For the Lady Knights, senior Mackenzie Dunn was a winner in the shot put (finishing 1-2 with teammate Logan Grove) and discus. Grove won the javelin, and Marissa Gourley finished first in the 100-meter hurdles and third just behind Warren’s Evelyn Egner and Ellie Yeager in the 300-meter hurdles.

In Warren’s 100-49 boys win, the Dragons’ Ethan Best dominated both hurdle events and also won the 200 meters. Parker Shene edged teammate Jeremiah Richardson in the 100 meters. Sam Lindell easily won the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter events, and edged teammates Corban Reinard and Matt Sowa by less than 2 seconds to win the 800 meters.

Shene also won the triple jump and long jump, besting Eisenhower’s Austin Hannold, though both jumped 18 feet, 8 inches.

For the Knights, Mikael Beaver won twice with the javelin and pole vault, Joe Mistretta won the 400 meters, Benji Bauer won the shot put, Bryceton Wilkins the high jump, and Caleb Penley discus. Hannold was also part of Ike’s winning 400-meter relay team with Bauer, Beaver and Ryan Chambers, who was also second in the 200 meters.
