Dragons drop slugfest at Franklin
FRANKLIN — Warren’s baseball team dropped a 13-12 non-region slugfest on Thursday.
The Dragons scored in every inning, but couldn’t overcome a nine-run bottom of the fifth inning.
“Ben Sowa made a great throw to cut down the winning run in the seventh by about 10 feet,” said Warren coach Andrew Morrison. “(Catcher) Gio (Elinsky) made a great tag; the ump decided to call obstruction. It’s really unfortunate the game ended that way as both teams played their butts off.
“Credit to Franklin; they hit the ball well,” added Morrison, whose Dragons played errorless ball. “All our guys threw strikes. They just hit the ball. Nothing to be mad about there.”
Franklin (5-6) took a 12-8 lead before Warren scored three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to tie the score.
“We did well offensively,” said Morrison. “We made some adjustments pregame, approach wise, and the kids followed through with it. If we continue that, we will be successful.”
Warren’s Konnor Hoffman threw 4.1 innings, allowing nine hits and five runs, and was 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Ben Sowa was 1-for-3 with two walks, Anthony Errett 2-for-3 with a double and two walks, and Archie Teconchuk walked three times — of the team’s 14 walks — with two runs scored. Carson Farr also doubled and Warren (3-7) stole six bases in the loss.
“I told the guys after the game, we are owed some breaks at some point,” said Morrison. “Today was the biggest example yet. If we keep our heads up and do what we need to do, there’s a bunch of winnable games in front of us.”
