Three Youngsville junior high wrestlers headed to Waterford last Saturday for the Bison Brawl and all three came home with a trophy for their efforts.
Kicking off the day for the Eagles was Carsyn Branstrom. Branstrom opened with a tough draw in the form of Tristan Wtorkiewicz of Mt. Pleasant, a returning PJW state medalist. An early takedown and two sets of near fall points proved to be the difference in the 8-0 loss. Branstrom responded to the opening-round loss by posting back-to-back, first-period pins over Nazir Velasquez of Erie and Chloe Zacherl of Wattsburg to reach the consolation finals. In the consolation finals, Branstrom produced a flurry of points before picking up the second-period fall to finish in third place.
Next up was Ayden Dean. Dean opened his tournament with a bye and then picked up a first-period fall over Zander Lombardo of WRCL. His semifinal opponent, Nathan Newman, had made the journey from Cleveland in search of competition. Dean put up a fight, but ultimately fell to Newman by fall. Dean then responded by picking up a major decision victory over Juniel Rodriques of Erie to make the consolation finals. Awaiting Dean in the consolation finals was Kaiden Beaumont of the Ragin’ Raisins. Beaumont and Dean traded blows throughout the match, but it was Beaumont who picked up the win in the end by a score of 6-3 as Dean finished fourth.
Rounding out the group of junior high grapplers was Mason Fleming. Fleming kicked off his tournament with Tristan Burbules of the host Ft. LeBoeuf Bison.
Fleming quickly scored a takedown via a thunderous double leg and finished off the Bison shortly after with a pin.

Fleming then ran into a buzzsaw in the semifinals in the form of Tucker Palotas of Cathedral Prep.
Fleming proved to be no match for the Rambler, losing by first period pin.
Fleming was able to rebound in the consolation semifinals against Noah Smith of Titusville. Fleming was in control from the get-go, picking up multiple takedowns and near-fall points before finishing off the Rocket by pin.
Fleming then matched up with young Eagles wrestler Tucker Sanford in the consolation finals. Sanford himself was having another tremendous tournament after winning his weight class at the Tyler Stufflebeam Tournament last weekend.
Sanford and Fleming battled back and forth throughout the duration of the match, but Fleming emerged the victor by pin to place third.
