Sheffield wrestlers fall at Punxutawney

PUNXUTAWNEY — “Overall, didn’t wrestle like we should have,” said Sheffield head coach Tom Holden in a brief statement following the Wolverines disappointing loss on the road to Punxutawney on Thursday evening.

Sheffield kicked things off with an 18-5 lead, benefiting from three Groundhog forfeits. Buried in those three wins was a difficult loss by Zach Barnes to Ezekiel Bennett at 145 pounds. The Groundhogs’ Grant Miller (172 pounds) and Joel Mehalic (189 pounds) would score nine apiece in their back-to-back wins, with Miller’s being major decision.

Quincy Boose was able to pull off a victory via pinfall in 2:19 at 285 pounds, but then the Wolverines gave up two forfeits and were pinned at 120 pounds and 126 pounds, resulting in Collin Browns quick pin of Nick Motter at 132 pounds in 50 seconds for the final match not being enough to pull off the team win.

Sheffield will travel to Eisenhower on Tuesday.
