Warren’s wrestling team is 5-1 after a 46-12 win over Seneca on Wednesday at Warren Area High School.

By the time Josh Letko wrestled at 139 pounds, the Senior Night match was well in hand for the Dragons.

“(He) was the only senior to get a match tonight on Senior Night and took full advantage, decking his opponent in the second period,” said Warren coach Glenn Baldensperger, whose Dragons have won three straight matches since Dec. 22. Seneca is 0-5.

Warren started the night at heavyweight, bumping freshman Joey Krall up “to get him a match,” said Baldensperger. “He looked really good,” pinning Seneca’s Clay Goodman in a minute and a half.

“After some forfeits, Cam Williams took the mat and seemed to be in control, battling hard, and got caught in a pinning combination,” Baldensperger said.

With Warren up 12-6, at 133 pounds, “Conner Zaffino looked great with a fall in the second period,” said the coach.

Letko was ahead 7-0 when his pin put the Dragons ahead 24-6. Letko is one of four Warren seniors honored on the night, including Gio Elinsky, Grant Heeter and Evan Swanson.

At 145 pounds, junior Jordan Tuttle’s match had the most action, going the distance. Tuttle led 6-1 after one period, 10-3 after two, and held off Seneca’s Julian Wright for a 17-8 major-decision victory.

“Seniors Evan Swanson and Grant Heeter, unfortunately, received forfeits, along with Damien Sanchez,” said Baldensperger. “Henry Hudson made his Dragon debut tonight at 189, taking on the Tool City champion from last weekend. He had the option to bump up and take the forfeit at 215, but decided to wrestle. We were happy with his decision and look forward to having on the mat for the Dragons.”
