Ike runners medal at McQuaid

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Eisenhower Knights varsity and junior high cross country teams traveled to Genesee Valley Park on Saturday to compete in the McQuaid Invitational, one of the largest invitationals on the east coast.

In the varsity boys race, the Knights competed in the small/medium class of schools. The race had 76 schools and 434 runners, all vying for a medal over the 3.0-mile course.

The top Knights runner was Joe Mistretta who placed 150th, with a time of 18:43 Ironically, Mistretta finished the race with only one shoe after losing it early in his race.

In the varsity girls race, where 70 schools and 375 runners were registered, also in the small/medium school class, the Knights Kierra Wismar finished 92nd in a time of 20:17.

In the junior high portion of the invitational, the Knights were well represented on the medal stand in the girls race.

The Knights competed in the small/middle school class, where 177 runners competed over the 1.6-mile course. The top three Knights finishers brought home medals. The top placer was Isabelle Grosch, who finished in 25th place with a time of 10:59. Finishing right behind her, in 26th place, was teammate Bryn Lindell in 11.01. Hialeah Stanton also brought home a medal when she finished in 44th place with a time of 11.38.

For the junior high boys race, Knights runner Easton Fitzgerald brought home a medal by finishing in 17th place out of 274 runners with a time of 9:17.
