Dragons fall to Meadville

Despite a 3-1 loss on Thursday to visiting Meadville, Warren’s volleyball team is better primed for the District 10 playoffs, and these two teams could meet again.

“It was just a few too many errors in the first two sets, which put us behind the 8-ball,” said Warren coach Mike Dolan of the 20-25, 20-25, 25-22, 23-25 loss. “We certainly battled for each point, especially in the last two sets, and almost forced a fifth set, but it was a combination of Meadville attacking more consistently than us and our ball control needing to be better at times.

“Maddy Jones had a nice all-around game, on defense and attacking,” Dolan added. “At times, Kylie Fehlman was really effective at the net with some big-time kills and putting up a big block. Summer Lucks did a nice job at libero as well.”

Jones had 12 kills, 13 digs and two aces; Alexia Bowers 10 kills and 14 digs; Fehlman nine kills; Carly Beers five kills, nine digs and two aces; Lindsay Madigan 32 assists and five digs; Lucks 22 digs and four aces; and Sophie Walker two digs and two aces.

“We were a little more error-prone than them and, with them having such a big-time finisher in Emma Parks, we needed to be a little cleaner all-around,” said Dolan. “It was a big-time effort and pretty high-level volleyball, so hopefully it helps prepare us for playoffs where we might end up seeing Meadville again.”

Prior to varsity, Warren’s JV defeated Meadville 26-24, 25-19. Lilly Newton had four kills and two aces; Elissa Errett four digs and four assists; Allie Lauffenburger four aces and a kill; Lauren Fajbik two digs and two aces; Sophie Walker eight digs and an ace; Maddie Nosel four kills, four digs and an ace; and Delaney Wright nine assists.
