Eisenhower is off to a perfect start to its football season.

The Knights (2-0) hope to continue that trend when they welcome region foe Union City (1-1) on Friday night.

“I would like to see us play more disciplined and eliminate the errors we had in the first two games,” Eisenhower head coach Jim Penley said. “If we can do that, we put ourselves in position to win. If we don’t, they definitely have the athletes to hurt us. We cannot let that happen.”

Through two weeks, the Knights’ offense, particularly the running game, has been impressive.

Led by senior tailback Benji Bauer, who is averaging 156 yards rushing (8.9 yards per carry), Eisenhower has amassed 607 yards on the ground and six touchdowns. Junior fullback Tucker Lindell has been effective as well, averaging nearly 7 yards per carry.

Quarterback Shawn Pascuzzi, a junior, has been efficient, passing for 172 yards and two touchdowns. He has yet to throw an interception and he hasn’t been sacked.

Defensively, the Knights have been stout, allowing just 142 total yards, including only five on the ground.

“(Union City) has a number of ballplayers who are among the best in single A,” Penley said. “They have a young roster and some of those younger players are learning on the job, but we cannot relax against this team. They run the ball very well — they ran for over 170 against Reynolds — and if we relax, they will take advantage of it.

“They have a couple of big linemen on their defense that we will have to control. Our line has done the job so far. One of the keys to the game is gaining control of the line of scrimmage.”

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Friday.

Starting at $3.50/week.
