Damore powers Warren golfers with 73 on opening day

FAIRVIEW — Under new head coach Nate Sandberg, Warren’s Braddock Damore had a strong showing on the first day of Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association fall sports Monday.

Damore shot a 73 to lead the Dragons to a third-place showing at the first Region 6 mega match of the season hosted by Erie High at Beechwood Golf Course.

Cathedral Prep’s Breckin Taylor was the medalist with a 70 as the Ramblers took first place by 17 strokes over second-place McDowell (321). Warren was third with a 322 followed by Erie (329), Hickory (346), Meadville (356) and Corry (363).

Erie’s Kyle Westfall was second with a 71. McDowell’s John Ferretti (74) and Cathedral Prep’s Connor Laird (76) rounded out the top five after Damore.

Warren’s Owen Blum finished with an 81, Conner Zaffino had an 82, Owen Becker fired an 86 and Reid Olsen had a 93.

“Today was a good indication of what we are capable of,” said Sandberg. “We can compete with anybody in the region, and I am proud of our finish today.”
