Tarp Skunks rally past Power
NIAGARA FALLS — The Jamestown Tarp Skunks scored three runs in the seventh inning and two more in the eighth to rally past the Niagara Power for a 6-3 victory in Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League West Division action Thursday at Sal Maglie Stadium.
Richard King, Tucker Fenton and Nathan Smith (2-0) combined to allow five hits and three runs while walking eight and striking out three over 7 2/3 innings before Travis Perry pitched the final 1 1/3 innings, striking out two, to earn the save.
Jamestown (10-6-1) took a 4-3 lead with a three-run seventh inning. Padraig O’Shaughnessy led off with a walk and Brandon Lane singled to open the frame. Will Dorrell then beat out a double-play ball and O’Shaughnessy scored on the play. After Johnny Kampes was hit by a pitch, Julian Thompson hit a two-out RBI single and Kampes scored on a passed ball.
The Tarp Skunks added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth. Yogie Hartigan walked with one out and stole second before moving to third on a fly out. Lane then hit an RBI double and Dorrell hit an RBI single.
Niagara (6-8) loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the eighth before Perry relieved and induced a groundout to first base. In the ninth, Perry set down the Power in order with a groundout and a pair of strikeouts.
Jamestown took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. With two outs, Hartigan and O’Shaughnessy walked before Lane was hit by a pitch. Dorrell then hit an RBI single before Kampes struck out with the bases loaded.
Niagara answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth off King. Payton Eeles singled with one out and Julian Uejima walked with two outs. A pair of wild pitches scored Eeles before David Coleman hit an RBI double.
The Power made it 3-1 with a run in the sixth off Fenton. Uejima walked and stole second before Ben Sinins hit a single. Jadyn Lobliner then plated Uejima with a groundout.
Trailing by two, the Tarp Skunks answered with five runs over the following two innings.
Jamestown returns home tonight for a 7 p.m. first pitch against the Batavia Muckdogs at Diethrick Park. Fireworks will follow the final out.
