Warren Girls Majors and Juniors take on St. Marys
Warren’s Girls Majors All-Stars were eliminated in Little League district tournament play on Wednesday, and Warren’s Girls Juniors were knocked to the elimination bracket with a loss — both by St. Marys.
GIRLS JUNIORS
Despite an opening 15-0 loss to St. Marys at Betts-Jackson Field in Warren, the Girls Juniors (13-14) had a number of solid defensive plays. St. Marys made them be alive on defense.
Alexis Pascuzzi made three nice plays from third to first, Shayleigh Albaugh a catch in left, and Kendra Danielson a solid back-handed play at first to end the final inning. Laney Font added a catch in center, and Emma McBride, Addison Heeter and Lilian Yoder all played hard on defense. Haley Highhouse had a solid catch and throw from shortstop and Samantha Childs and Danica Abbey were the pitcher-catcher battery in the opener.
Warren’s best scoring chance came on Alana Byrd’s fly ball to center, but St. Marys made the catch to ensure the shutout. The Warren all-stars are rounded out by Alicia Collins and injured player Alexis Stec, now helping to coach.
Warren is at Bradford at 6 p.m. Friday for an elimination game.
GIRLS MAJORS
St. Marys defeated Warren, 14-0, in four innings on Wednesday in an elimination game at the Farm Colony Complex.
Despite the shutout loss, Khloe Morse had a base hit and a fine defensive play at first for Warren (0-2). Ava Wymer added a nice catch on a line drive to shortstop, and she pitched two innings with four strikeouts. Olivia Romanosky added Warren’s other hit, and Meredith Smythe did well behind the plate.
