Warren’s 43-19 Region 6 win over Corry on Monday at Warren Area High School seemed secondary to honoring two of the Lady Dragons’ all-time best on Senior Night.

Emma Ruhlman and Riley Childress have combined for over 2,600 career points and have helped Warren win two District 10 titles in 3 seasons.

“Everyone always says when you’re a freshman that the next four years will fly by, but you never really realize it until you’re a senior looking back,” said Ruhlman. “I’ve grown up watching my mom’s players all go through their Senior Nights and I can’t believe I just had mine. It’s crazy to be this close to the end, but we still have a lot of games to win and things to accomplish. I want to help take my team as far as we can. We have a little over a week in the regular season left and then playoffs and we’re going to come out ready to go.”

On Monday, Ruhlman and Childress combined for 29 in Warren’s sixth win in a row. Ruhlman had 20 points and 11 rebounds, and Childress 9 points and six assists against Corry.

“It’s very hard to put into words,” said Warren coach Lisa LaVan, who is also Emma’s mom. “These two have been with me forever — 14 years in our program. 14 years … they have grown into great basketball players and, more importantly, great people. It has been an amazing ride and we have a lot of basketball left to play.”

Corry falls to 6-10 overall and 1-7 in Region 6. The Beavers actually led 5-4 after one quarter until a 13-3 Warren second quarter gave the Dragons the lead for good. Emma Ruhlman had 5 points in the quarter and her sister, Gracie, another 4 points.

Warren is 16-3 overall and 8-1 in the region.

“It’s crazy that I’ll never play at WAHS again, but it was an awesome night and I’m excited for playoffs to start soon,” said Childress.
